I am hoping for a way to prioritize one phone over the other. My wife's keeps winning the battle...
I run 2 iPhones 1 personal and 1 work. I want to prioritize my work phone. I took my truck in for a bunch of warranty work with this as a complaint. The service dept. said that they get this complaint alot and would try to update software to resolve. It helped a minute amount.
What I have learned after 7 months. If I last used CarPlay on the work phone plugged in, it usually picks it up first. If I use CarPlay on the work phone wirelessly, it is a toss up the next time I start the truck up which phone it chooses, usually my personal phone. Alot of times I just plug in my work phone, start the truck and wait until CarPlay picks up my work phone, then i plug in my personal phone. But I have also run into the truck just picks up my personal phone wirelessly and will not pick up my work phone period. I usually end up rebooting to resolve this situation.
When it picks up the wrong phone I usually go to the phone list button and manually select my work phone CarPlay. I also will swap phone while its ringing using the phone list button. But when swapping between phones it usually only works once.
I hope Ford is monitoring and runs across this thread and help resolve. I miss my 2020 just for prioritizing phones, other than that I love my 20204.
Does Ford have the feature to use 'dual phones?' My Ram has that feature but I haven't looked for it in any of our other vehicles as yet. Basically it will use CarPlay from one phone and just bluetooth connect to the other. I'm not really a fan of it because you've got to pay attention to which phone is ringing but it's a neat feature.
I have the exact same problem on my 2019. When my wife is with me and plugs in her phone always gets priority even though mine was already plugged in. We both have newer iPhones so I don’t think phone type matters. If I unplug hers then unplug/plug mine back in I’ll get control but often when she plugs back in it switches back to hers, urgh!

If it's there I haven't found it or possibly smart enough to use it. When my personal phone rings and I know it's going to be a long conversation I just switch the CarPlay to my personal phone and then try and switch it back, which usually causes me to reboot.
I’m not sure this is your issue because you don’t state if they are plugged into the usb or not, but I believe the phone plugged into the main usb port will always win. If you are both using usb have your wife plug into a usb port behind the center console, like she was in the back seat.

In my case it doesn't matter if one is plugged in or both. I've had my personal phone wireless win over my plugged in work phone. Using apple cables and aftermarket.
