Need Help direction
2004 f150 XLT Heritage 4.6L
Everything was working fine, till I decided to 'fix' intermittent odometer [105000 miles], after reinstalling dashboard cluster.
it cranks, but no start - unless I use starter spray fluid.
- removed cluster to fix cold solder, then all the problems occurred.
- removed pos battery, waited 24 hrs, reconnected started but will not restart.
- thinking I did something to dash cluster, installed a used replacement
- all fuses check good
- replaced fuel filter, while fuel filter was disconnected attempted to see if fuel pump was working. Key ON, no fuel.
- PATS code = 15, replaced OEM key fob batteries on both original keys
My thoughts: transceiver died; perhaps ignition switch: fuel pump went out with no warning;
This is dash presentation. Theft light gives a code of 15. Makes no sense as it's with oem key fob.
attempted to contact diagnostic mobile mechanic - no replies [4]; perhaps too old of a vehicle
Looking for help with suggestions and perhaps sequence to start, i.e., 1, 2, 3
Thanks in advance for reading
Either way, since the replacement cluster isn’t flashed to handshake with the engine computer, the truck won’t start, anyway…even with a good transceiver ring.
Should repost in the 97-03 subforum, since that is basically the truck you have.
Success! Well partially. re-installed my 'repaired' cluster and voila - truck started!
But, while gauges gave the appearance of working, i.e., gas, battery, odometer, tach before I started the truck - they stopped once the truck started and was running.
I guess my next step is to attempt to drive the truck to a mechanic shop and have them install and program the replacement cluster
Finally found a real mechanic who had the ability to re-program the computer, extremely rare commodity here in Jacksonville.
The solution: the key transmitter went bad in both OEM keys.
1. replaced keys and programmed the computer
2. both oem Key fobs were fine;
Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions.
Now, to once again put my 'fat fingers' into the mix....power windows and dome lights do not work. Will be chasing down the driver door harness wiring
