POWERBOOST opinions
Would like opinions from owners, in as much as likes/dislikes on the FORD PowerBoost engine.
Mileage.
Towing capabilities.
Would you purchase again?
Repair costs, Does the PB incur an increase in labor because it's a PB ?
Thanx,

1 episode of ‘Full Accessory’ lock up- warranty replaced battery.
Repurchase?- mine, yes because it is just what I wanted. But, Ford opted to handicap towing limiting payload 300-400+lbs with forced options. Now it is probably a better work truck to power tools than for towing.
Repair has not yet been an issue. My service appears to have techs dedicated to Hybrid/electric.
My unscientific observation is that around 1 in 5 new generation F150 are PowerBoost.
For the "weekend warrior" family camping type of person, they seem to be very popular in the campgrounds around here. And on the roads in general. Depending on the trim level you get, and the curent incentives, sometimes it's a nearly free option to get the hybrid, and I think that it's pretty good value.
Haven't owned one yet, but would consider strong for next truck.

Enjoying my PB
IMO PB with its Pro Power is really about the only reason to go PB. Yes, you get a bit better MPG in stop and go traffic but that shouldn't be your sole reason for going PB. It fits my towing and hauling envelope, daily driver needs, and commute.
Yes the ProPower is good. The ability to cool the truck without running the engine is good, The reduction in fuel use around the city is not huge, but welcome. Fuelly self-reported mileage is ~2 MPG better on hybrid.

I was simply intrigued by the whole setup. Loved the HP/TQ numbers for a variety of reasons. I did read a number of negative comments from past owners, mostly dealing with gremlins that have been difficult to diagnosis. This may in part be due to the limited number of Hybrid trained Ford techs at any given dealership.
I figured I would give one a shot, but I also purchased an extended warranty to back the foundation of being a satisfied consumer moving forward.
I made it 244 miles before it went in for its first "Check Engine Light", situation handled under warranty and had to do with the gas fuel emissions EVAP canister. As I understand it this is a check engine item that is becoming more frequent lately on all engine choices not only the Power Boost.
The only personal issue that I have found with the truck is that when you park and put the truck into park it goes to electric power and is so quiet that you can easily jump out of the truck and start to walk away while it is still on.

On my second 21 PB. Bought a fully loaded out custom order 2wd 157” xlt when there was no inventory on the lots in 2022 because I needed 157” but really wanted a 4x4. Ended up putting 70k miles on it with zero issues other than the wipers that stopped working which didn’t happen until 68k miles, that truck surprisingly didn’t fall within the recall for the wiper motors but has the exact issue. I ended up changing it out myself since they wouldn’t warranty it and it was literally a 20 min job. I then got a 21 157” 4x4 king ranch PB that had 57k miles on it at the time. It now has 91k miles and literally zero issues.
21 PB with 31k no issues,
besides the module that controls the blind spot monitoring system. That was warrantee
repaired at month 35 of ownership. You don’t buy PBs for mpgs rather you buy them for the 7.2 kw generator )for house backup power and boondocks RV powering).

Traded my 2022 xlt pb in about 3 weeks ago for a ‘24 f250 xlt super duty. Really never had an issue with it but wanted the additional payload more than the onboard generator. Had the 7.2kw generator onboard and I used it a couple times but not enough to make it indispensable.
i recently saw the article naming it the least reliable vehicle for the 3rd year in a row……..never had an issue but mine was 2.5yrs old with 17k miles so maybe there would have been an issue in the future and maybe not. I liked the truck and loved sport mode, but in the end I went back to a long bed CC diesel. Just like the solid feel when towing even though I never tow more than 10k. Kind of missed my old oil burner a bit (2nd gen ram 2500) and have several generators should the need arise.
funny thing is, the dealership tried low balling me on the trade in value by saying they had a hard time selling the powerboosts. Probably true but my reply was “it’s got 17 recalls, ford should be happy to buy it back at a fair price because it’s got an extended warranty and they’ll be paying far more long term”. They didn’t like that so I walked out. We went back and forth for a couple days and they finally gave me a fair price.
summary, I liked mine but traded it in not because of any issues but because of payload/capacity.

Am a retired IBEW inside wire-man that worked and installed VFD's or Variable Frequency Drives for motors of all sizes.
Had a 21 Power Boost 302a with towing that was an amazing truck that only had the Ford service bulletins and recalls done on the truck BUT.
Each and every time it went in the service department was wary of working on it.
If a Power Boost is going to be your main source of transportation you as the owner will need to take your own measures to make sure the dealerships in your area can repair it in a timely manner. Otherwise do not be pointing figures at the dealership for slow repairs that one is on YOU.
Now drive a 22 302a XLT 2.7EB payload package truck that has 22K miles on it and it's life time mileage average is HIGHER than the same truck in Power Boost form.

I have a 24 4wd Lariat, the mileage is worse than the eco-diesel I traded in and the only way 4wd is effective is in low range. Other than that, the powerboost is useful camping and on the job, and it rides great. 16,000 miles so far.
