F-250 Value
looking at a 91 F-250 with a IDI in it with 168k miles. Truck is in pretty good shape for the year body wise. Lots of new parts ie brakes, injectors, wheels, tires. Just curious what estimate value would be?
Thanks
It's very subjective, is it a desirable vehicle that fits your needs?
More importantly, to what you want to pay, is what the seller wants for the truck.
And seeing if you can come close enough together to complete a sale.
There is no standardised value for an old Ford truck, especially an IDI diesel.
New trucks today sell for like a mortgage. price 100g's - and you get far less today for that gwap than an old, in good condition IDI.
But there are many other gas trucks that are pretty good and cheaper.
That's just my opinion, everyone has one, but if you get it, it will require work, it's old, like anything old, it's gonna need work, so only get it if you're mechanicly inclined.
with pics and far more detail could maybe, suggest a starting point.
But for me, I wouldn't sell my truck if someone offered me 25 stack cash, or anything really - unless it was a very very lot, because for me, the question I have to answer is, what can I buy again, for however much i'd sell for, much thats better than what I already have?
and what I have invested, and what it's worth to me, nothing else really matters, so I wouldn't be able to do better, these trucks represent the apex of engineering and quality, I think.
There's deficiencies all over, for sure, electrical stupid stuff, weak fuel delivery, ancillary systems were are all - just "good enough", 30 years ago.
Everything needs improvements all over, from stock and then repairs, but there is alot of room for improvement.
everything is comparatively easy to work on and affordable, and the 'bones' are very solid.
The only shortcoming is lack of overdrive on the manual trans, but manual trans is still for me favorable, but that can be overcome with money and an aux transmission.
These are better than todays vehicles, only better would be to buy several old ford diesel trucks, with whatever money, but thats alot to do to build em.
Try and educate yourself on how to look for signs of unresolved problems that are going to need repair, and figure that into negotiating a price, if required.
Really, it's worth however much your willing to pay.
A 34yo truck is always an unknown quantity.
Easy to work on. 5 speed hasn't much electronics, just the Regulator, GP Controller, RABS, Radio.
Perhaps one of the biggest things are 4:10 geared models as the IDI isn't a very high RPM engine and 4:10s are basically happy at 55mph, not 70.
Check Blowby first, if that's not bad, check coolant for hydrocarbons (cavitation, head gasket), check oil pressure with guage, compression with all 8 GPs removed. If the basic engine seems ok, the rest is easy to fix/replace. If all 8 GPs are wotking, a healthy IDI will light immediately on first try in the morning. If you have any air intrusion into fuel system, it wont like to fire right away, though. If you smell even the slightest hint of diesel, theres a leak somewhere.
No DEF !!!
I envy the guys with a place / strong hoist to swap engines...
