So I have read a few threads on using the plow harness to get access for additional lighting on the front of the truck (yes, I know there are mixed feelings on adding more lights, but to each their own). I purchased a short harness that sits between the connectors of the plow harness and I tapped into it to feed the new lights. The new lights draw a total of 0.25A and are meant to come on as running lights. The lights work for a moment and then the BCM seems to recognize that there is something new there and it will disable the running lights in the front until I disconnect the new lights and then everything works as it should.
My plan is to rewire the new lights to a relay that is triggered by the same running light feed. My question is simply, does the relay not require a certain amount of amperage draw to operate and is there any way to know how much amperage it is drawing? I'm afraid the relay will draw enough to cause the BCM to do the same thing and shut down the running light feed.
