[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-16-03 AT 08:20 PM (EST)]I have a 1995 E-350 Box Truck with about 110,000 miles. It has a 5.8l engine and I have just changed the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, oil, air and oil filter. The problem I am having is the truck stalls out when the temperature needle climbs into the normal range. The truck just stalls and restarts easily, but then stalls again. When this occurs, the smoke from the engine becomes black. I have also checked the EGR valve. Any help is greatly appreciated.
My first "guess" would be the oxygen sensor. If you are running too rich because of a bad oxygen sensor it will be noticeably too rich when warmed up.Oxygen sensors are a common sensor to fail because of the very, very, hot environment that they work in.
I deal with this things every day!!! i would check the coolant temp sensor, maybe out of range the thing is that once it warms up it still telling the computer that the engine is cold ,then the computer sends lots of raw gas to your engine like when you start it in the mornings and if sensor cheks ok,remember not the sensor that drives your gauge but the one whith two wires on it, i would check the fuel pressure regulator, they go bad often. please keep us informed . If your computer has a code stored for this problem a scan tool will retrieve it.Usually the check engine light will be on when the computer "throws" a code.
I believe the oxygen sensor can be checked with an ohm meter, but you have to know the values that are supposed to be displayed on the ohm meter.
