Pull those damn codes!

94 F350 4x4 460…Kids truck started acting up on his way home from freeriding MotoX out in the desert. ABS light on, Ran like **** on the hwy, struggling to run 55-60. No power.
We have been wanting to send his PCM and PSOM out to get checked and repaired if needed. Found a Cool Dude that does it for really affordable price and quick turnaround.
Figured perfect time to do it Got everything back within a week. Put it all back together and ABS still on. Took it for a drive and ran like **** at 45-50mph. Ran the codes on the ABS with a jumper. Sure as ****, ran the flashes and found a found a disconnected harness on the bottom of the master brake cylinder reservoir.
Truck runs amazing now after replacing capacitors on the PCM and testing PSOM. 12 flashes can turn your truck to ****!!! This is the best place to be to keep out OLD Rigs runnin!

Well yes, the ABS light would still be on. The RABS and PCM/ECM share the signal from the speed sensor but are totally separate systems. There might have been a code in the engine computer but that would not necessarily turn on the engine light. Too late now to find out unless you disconnect that harness again to see if it will set a code. Glad you got it fixed.

Yeah I'm having similar running issues with my '96 F-250

I opened up the ECU and noticed the blue capacitors had evidence of leakage.

I just shipped it out for a test and rebuild.

After research We learned that if low brake fluid is detected then it struggles to run over 50-55. Kind of a limp mode I guess. We had 12 flashes on the ABS light and the code was for the brake master cylinder. Thats how we found the disconnected harness on the bottom of the reservoir.

We noticed improvement right away. Especially shifting. We didn’t have any leaking capacitors, but after 30+ years in the desert heat we figured replacing them wouldn’t hurt.
