Slow start after running 20m
I repaired the damage from the stolen radio and capped all the cut wires. I have changed the starter, relay, battery, all battery cables including the the starter, someone suggested a heat shield for the starter, which I installed. I changed the key switch also, the only thing left is the ignition switch and module which is costly.
Anyone have any ideas or have a similar problem in the past money is getting tight with Christmas around the corner. I cannot afford to make many mistakes regarding parts that won't fix the problem.
Thanks for any insight,
If it won't crank after 30 minutes, than it could be the solenoid. You can use a crank trigger to cut across the solenoid to see if that's the problem. Also, this could be a symptom of a bad starter. I had this happen on a Pontiac of mine years ago. If the starter motor stopped in a certain positition after running for a while, it wouldn't crank until it cooled off. One way to get it cranking is to have a friend turn the key while you whack the starter with a hammer. I know, it sounds bad, but it works, and I've heard mechanics recommend this as well. You'll have to replace the starter anyway.
Regarding the starter motor you replaced, a rebuilt starter is no guarentee it works. Have them test the starter *under load*. It's tough to find a place that will do that, but getting a motor to spin freely is a lot easier than getting to spin 6 to 8 cylinders. I made the shop replace the starter 3 times until they gave me a good one.
I have no clue what or why this worked.
Thanks to everyone for your insight.
