6R140 REBUILD SWAP PROGRAM

Quick backstory. 2018 F250 DPF delete. Purchased truck used later found out on the DPF delete. Checked if the truck had the EGR and torpedo installed, thought all good. Tune had the truck doing firm shifts, I was told this was to keep the trans from grenading Ford dealer could not do a PCM recall because of the tune on truck had it locked. Trans went kaput. Dealer offered used trans, I said no thanks. Offered a new trans and suggested to rebuild my existing trans.
Here is my question. If I were to get a used trans, new trans or rebuild my trans, would I have to go find the original tuner to reprogram for the shifting parameters?
Appreciate the help.

You can get a banks pedal monster and set the below 10 mph shift to soft.

It sounds like the delete tunes have not so good transmission tuning.. I'll let one of the guys with delete experience answer but not having the flash tuner with the delete tunes/the original stock ECM program on it makes it difficult for you to adjust the trans tuning, unless you buy another flash tuner from someone along with some 6R140 tuning... good luck.

How many miles on the truck?

112,000 miles. Trans was shifting fine until the dealer did the upper oil pan leak. trans needed to be dropped for access. trans crapped out two days after. The trans always shifted firm due to the programming.

That's interesting... I don't know what to think of that... it's either a coincidence or it's not. But I'm leaning towards it wasn't a coincidence... Sorry I wasn't more help.

Be very careful with the solenoid code paperwork. If you look at it wrong, it will smear and you'll have to drop the pan to get the numbers off the valve body again. Ask me how I know....

Hopefully I’ll never need it, but good advice.

Thanks for the advice. I had sent a link about the solenoids prior and a bunch of other links. Apparently, there are some solenoids with a black plastic band and others with brown. They have to be identified properly when programming the trans. My whole issue is they will not be able to program as far as I am aware because the ECM is locked due to the tune. I don't know if the TCM is locked but figure it is. The GM is knowledgeable and was a chief service advisor for 14 years. He knows what a deleted truck is. I don't want to tell him what to do because if something goes wrong I don't want him pointing his finger my way. I have just sent him links saying hey take a look at this and reaffirmed they might have an issue during programming. Appreciate all the kind comments. I will let everyone knows how this all turns out for future reference.

Bingo. That IS an issue. What is required is the original tuner that has the OEM stock programming in it. At the dealership, this could be reinstalled, and Ford can do their programming, then have the tune reinstalled. Without it, you have only one choice, get your own tuner, a proper delete tune, and have ford factory reset your PCM with the correct as-built stock tune, then program the trans properly, however, they wont be able to road test it until the delete tune is installed.

You will need to go across the border to get one though. Good luck and happy hunting.
