Is the extended service plan for these late model Super Duties worth it?
I have a 21' 6.7l Dually 4 X 4 with ~33k miles. Just wondering if it is worth purchasing. It's ~$1365 for another 19 months or 75k miles - I won't ever reach 75k miles in 19 months. lol.
I would say yes, I just had an extended plan pay on a failed HPFP... I joke with my friends, "If you own a Diesel, have a extended warranty or 25k in the bank" when things snap, it snaps hard ..I had the S&S DPK installed along with the repair work, if it should happen again, I will have the S&S pump installed
I bought my extended plan of 7 years or 125k miles at time of purchase for about $4400 I want to say and it paid for DEF heater, wiper transmission, both sides of BJs and bearings when they destroyed the bearings taking them out, tie rods and both rear springs so I'm saying it was worth it to me.

On my 2015, i have had DEF pump/heater assembly changed, front track bar ball joint, primary radiator, left rear spring pack, all 8 injectors replaced, turbo coolant line, and some funky issue with the intercooler fixed. The injector repair alone would have been about 7K to fix, so I am at about 15K in repairs the warranty has fixed.
In all fairness, the injectors were covered under the 100K mile powertrain warranty, but still worth it.
My ESP just ran out 800 miles ago, and I just developed a massive fuel leak.......no more ESP, that's gunna hurt I'm sure.

Wow. How many years was that warranty and how much was the plan back then?

This is a 2015 model, but wheels on the ground was in Oct. 2014. I bought it in july of 2015 with 9K miles on it.
The dealer sold me the 3/36 extended warranty through a company called Portfolio Protection, all rolled into the deal so I can't say how bad I was screwed on that one. The Ford included powertrain warranty to 100K only covers internally lubricated parts. In 2020 it was going to expire due to time, so I was able to buy a Ford backed warranty that expired at 117,300 miles. Cost was around 3K or so.
Before you buy an extended service plan check to see if you can get repair appts.
i have the 7yr/125k plan and have never been able to use it because dealerships in my area never have diesel repair appts. They tipcally schedule an appt 60 to 90 days out, then a week before…they reschedule another 60 to 90 days out, cycle continues until they cancel your appt and put you on a “will call you someday list”.
I have replaced parts on my dime due to no spots being available.
i think the problem in high cost areas is that warranty work plays a lot less than non warranty work and the local dealerships watch their margins too closely.
so before you buy an extended plan …call around and pretend you need warranty repair work and see where that leads you.

good luck.
Do they know you have the ESP ahead of time you try to make the appointment?

Oh and I also forgot the EGR cooler core that was just starting to plug causing a code just before the ESP expired... whew at the time.

How far out were these dealers fritz? If it was me and IMO, I'd go out of state then if service could be scheduled in a reasonable amount of time... then possibly make plans to stay at a motel if needed. This shows the population density downstate there in NYC... crazy.

Dealers sell ESP and guarantee their shop is fully booked at all times; leading to extended wait times for the customer to get work done. Not worth it to me. If it breaks, I want it fixed ASAP! Not “someday” when they can fit me in.
Read the fine print, not all ESP cover the fuel system. The Gold Certified warranty on my 2019 specifically stated the diesel fuel system is NOT covered.
