I will finally be installing my SK6 kit into my C6. I did not order a valve body gasket, and the kit does not come with one. Can I reuse the old one or do I need to replace it? This does not appear to be a part the local auto parts stores carry so where do I pick one up? I am leery about using Amazon or Ebay for type of thing. Also what are the good brands to consider for this part?
Thanks
@rd65 Maybe check your local NAPA. Here in Indiana my local NAPA is affiliated with WIT Transmission, a nation wide wholesaler. That's where I buy all my hard parts and gaskets
Kit is installed, there was a gasket, it didnt tear, reused it. I need to replace the shifter shaft seal so I havent reinstalled the valve body yet. Only a couple of other things to do, then I will start working on getting the engine/trans installed. Fist, I need to dig the thing out.
That dark patch on the blue rag has me worried
If the fluid looked that dark I hate to see what the clutches & plates look like

This is the first auto trans I have ever worked on, so I don't have much to go on. The fluid in the valve body looked nice and red, doesn't smell burnt out anything like that. Guess we will see. I bought the truck from my FIL and didn't have much of a chance to drive it before the rear main seal drip turned into flow. There was some darker film/ sediment on the valve piston covers/ plates.
It looks a little darker than I would like it but not bad and if it dont smell you should be OK.
I think it looks dark because the paper rag is soaked and the bench is showing thru it.
Carry on
