Ignition Coil Confusion

I have a 1977 F250 with the 400 6.6. Having spark issues. Replaced the ignition control module, pick up coil, new plugs, and wires. I get intermittent spark from the coil. I'm thinking the ignition coil is bad or going out. When I looked for a replacement coil what is suggested for my truck is a different coil that's installed. What am I missing here?

To me it looks like you have the wrong coil in the 1st place or the PO replaced the OEM coil with that one for some reason. At least the replacement you looked up is the per say "normal" looking OEM coil. You will also need what we commonly call the C clip (ignition coil pigtail socket) to connect to that coil end.

The round coil will mount in a clamp to the dvrs side of the eng, next to the dizzy cap.

To me that looks like a newer vehicle, like maybe a (86-91) EFI 5.0 Crown Vic, Mercury Marquis, coil. That mounts on the passenger side of the eng block.

That sounds about right. When i searched for that coil it said it was for EFI. Started scratching my head and came here. Ford's are new to me. This wasn't the first butchered thing i ran into on this truck. Had to re-wire all the brake lights, turn signals, running lights, etc. Pretty much from the steering column back it was a hack job from the PO.
