Question about the Premium Maintenance Plan option. Do you have to stick to the maintenance schedule for the truck? I mean the fuel filter change is at like 30k now. Can I take it to Ford at say 20K and not get grief (would have this done every third 7500 mile oil change)? Air filters, oil change and such I'm not worried about, but the diesel filters I am. And no, I can't do my own maintenance, and the local shops are just as pricy as the dealer., so that's not part of this question. Dealer charged $550 for oil change, tire rotation/balance (front only-F450), and fuel filter change on last visit. I was just wondering who holds the cards with the Maintenance Plan.
Ford holds the cards and dictates the service intervals. The plan will cover maintenance done per the schedule in the owner's manual. You have options when buying the plan to shorten the interval (severe duty) but that will cost more than the normal duty or extended normal duty. There is also a limit to the number of visits to the dealer under the plan based on duty cycle and years/mileage coverage.
They will only follow the maintenance plan schedule for your vehicle. I had one and I didn’t do my homework. If you are a high mileage driver then you get what you paid for. If not then you lose. In my case I never saw the 36,000, 45,000 and 60,000 mile services. The plan ran out of months prior to those mileages.
