I'm looking at getting a 1999 F350 Powerstroke with a dump bed. I'm old and tired of shoveling rock and dirt off my tilt bed trailer.. While looking the truck over, I noticed a disconnected hose on top of the fuel tank. It is on top of the tank and in front of the fuel sending unit. It looks like a large vent hose, but there should be something like a vent on the end. It's just a hose pointing to the drivers side. Working on it won't be hard, but I'd like to figure out what needs to be done before I spend money on the truck.
I tried finding a plumbing diagram but kept getting diagrams for the engine end. This truck is perfect for what I need. 4 doors and a 9 foot dump bed. I don't want the fuel system to be open to the atmosphere like it is now though. The tank will be drained and the fuel flushed and cleaned. If this was a gas engine, I'd say it's a vent hose for the fuel filler.
Looked at the truck in daylight today. The loose hose is the vent line for the fuel tank fill pipe.I'm talking to the owner tomorrow and I'm going to ask how long it's been off.
