upgrading exhaust system

Hey I looking for some information on my 2024 Ford F350 ultimate Lariat with a 7.3L gas motor. I was wondering if changing the exhaust system affects the warranty at all, and did the fuel mileage get any better and what system do you guys recommend

Exhaust

As long as you leave all emissions on it won’t affect your warranty. Aftermarket exhaust kits called Cat back are what you are looking for. All you get is sound and drone with some. Mine is a 2017 6.2L with MBRP. Sounds wonderful but drones in the mountains with a trailer. Drone can be lessened by slowing down a bit or speeding up. Never experienced drone on the flatlands. You won’t get any better mileage. Just the beautiful sound of an American V-8. I don’t think there is much of anything you can do other than drive with your foot out of it to get the best results which aren’t the best with these heavy brick trucks. They come from the factory with a cold intake so leave this alone. It’s better than any aftermarket system. I like the sound of mine too much to change it and just deal with the drone by adjusting my speed in mountain driving.

ARH has a great system, I used a version of this on my '21 F450, couldn't tell if it helped milage, cause I like hearing it at wide open throttle.

What ever you get, do not discard the factory system. Many on FTE have found the droning under load to be so tiresome and distasteful they put the factory system back on.

Many, but not everyone.

I put the MBRP cat-back system on my 2022 F250 7.3. I thought the drone was a little too much, so I reached out to MBRP and they suggested swapping the muffler that came with the kit for their "quiet tone" muffler which they said is the muffler they put in their diesel kits. This setup worked out just right for me. Very happy with it. They were very helpful and gave me a good discount on the muffler.

I have a Magnaflow cat-back system on my 7.3L, I did a write up on here about it right after I installed it as I was one of the very first to do so. It has a slightly lower rumble than the stock system, but it isn't that much different. No MPG difference, as the stock system is VERY well designed and flows very efficiently. The cost of the Magnaflow system has gone up dramatically since I installed it, not worth the asking price anymore in my opinion.

Generally speaking, these trucks (and really most new vehicles) are tuned in such a way that they're already almost at peak fuel economy. Exhausts and intakes are designed with simulation software, then real-world tested to ensure the flow is as efficient as it can be, so short of stripping emissions (which is against the law except for off-road use), there isn't much you can do with exhaust or intake to improve fuel economy. The most you're going to do is change the sound, and with that sound usually comes a fuel economy loss because you're in it more often trying to hear it.

Anything that increases air flow is going to also increase fuel flow. That's just how it works. So any claims of increased fuel economy on cold air intake kits or exhaust kits is a lie.

As far as drone goes, just get a kit with a long muffler. The shorter the muffler, the more drone.

Here is my "cat back" exhaust system mod. After I first got the truck, I was curious...Had a friend drive the truck while I listened to the exhaust sound, while standing on the side of the road. Under hard accelleration, it sounded fine - you could tell there was a big V-8 churning out the ponies, not obnoxious, but not a quiet "whoooosh" sound either. I liked the subdued, stock exhaust sound. I've been down the cat back road before, and as pointed out, "drone" is a big issue, especially when towing. But, big V-8 exhaust sound does sound "cool", and if you are looking for big performance sound, without a noticable performance increase, it's definitely money you should spend. Just another opinion
