Recently bought a 2008 F250 super duty 5.4 gas to pull a lightweight camper trailer. This truck does not have the trailer brake control and will need a master cylinder with brake control valve. I will be doing the install myself and want to make sure I get the correct parts. I would like to get what Ford would have put in the dash for controller and whatever fills the rest of the space. What I have seen is a control that does not have LED on it for 2008 and assume + or - gains are shown in the instrument cluster. If I get OEM with LED will it still show gains in the cluster? Of course the correct master cylinder advice would be helpful as well. Like I said I would like it to look like Ford installed it when truck was new but with that being said function is more important. Thank you in advance for any help, advise or smart *** comments LOL.
Get the LED display brake controller as it will work with all 08-10 trucks, the newer non-displays will only work on 09-10(maybe late 08) trucks as the cluster doesn’t support the non-display type.
If you can get the master cylinder from Ford it will be cheaper as it comes with the brake pressure sensor(control valve) and brake pressure switch that redundantly cancels cruise control.
You’ll also either need to go to the dealer to get the trailer brake enabled or get forscan and there recommend adapter and enable it yourself in the instrument cluster.
