I am going to purchase a diamond plate box for my F250SD. Any thoughts on best size? I have heard that the 72" is a tad too long (across the bed). How about Gull-wing vs. Single-lid.
I've been looking at the same. So far Dee Zee is one of the few manufacturers that offers a custom Super Duty width box for our wider than average beds. They have some nice single and dual lid models.
Hope this helps.
I've got two side mounted "Rawson-Koenig", 50in x 12in x 12in, diamond plate boxes. There is still room for 48in wide sheet material on the floor; plus the full length of the bed. With diamond plate running boards, I (5'4") can get into the boxes from the side or from inside the bed. The down side is that that being that "short" in the driver's seat, I'm apt to run over a Ricer that I didn't see behind the right box.
Try a weatherguard aluminum. Single lid is the best way to go
They are expensive, but if you can afford a super-duty do not skimp and buy a cheeeep box. You will not regret it
Weathergaurd is the best, I have the single lid box and needed something that would keep rain out. Even at the carwash my stuff stays dry. Its an expensive box but worth it. I had a R&K before, and the damn thing would pop open occasionally on the highway.. I work out of my truck(HVAC service) so its used and abused daily, after 2 years of service its been the best box I have owned!! btw the R& K is for sale...

I have the gull wing on my old white truck. Regular cab. Every single lid I looked at was going to be a pain in the hind end to open while standing on the ground and I'm not short, 6' tall. I am very happy with the gull wings, can get everything I need to in there, including my axes and splitting mauls.
Highway Products truck boxes in White City, Oregon is known for very heavy duty boxes. They use 'em on the Big Rigs too. I'd wouldn'y recommend gullwings as they are a PITA to load things in.
