If you are not good with finding your own answers and like to have your hand held, you might want to go a different route.
I want to get into tuning and performance so I imagine I would enjoy the challenge, I will do some more reading and studying into it and how they work.

I will get my gauge on it and see, I know it is within the range it should be in, I want to say 32 psi at idle and then 38 with the FPR unplugged. I replaced both of my fuel pumps in February.

So i just threw all the numbers through a compression calculator, I had previously calculated them by hand, and my static is 10.15:1 and dynamic is 8.92:1.

To clarify it isn't pinging or missing on the low octane right now, so I am going to increase my base ignition timing. On current timing I gave it some hard acceleration and there wasn't a miss, I don't think I would be able to hear a ping over the exhaust on hard acceleration.

The big problem I have is understanding the terms. I have an AHACA strategy and somethings are so easy, but others I have no clue. Since it's not a popular strategy, there is not much help out there.

Get a wideband.

If you installed that cam "dot to dot" then the cam is in the engine 4 degrees advanced because that is ground into the camshaft, 114 lobe separation in the engine on a 110 intake centerline.

Alright, I did some hard accel today and I got it to miss once just felt like a little blip for a split second and then she was a ok after that, I am running low of fuel so I am planning on putting 91 in it next fill up.

I got some decent burns on my hands from a welding incident so I haven't been able to get some physical work done on the truck. But I did look into some A/F ratio gauges and I am planning on getting a wide band, I was just shopping around to find one I liked. I am planning on running it all the time and just sticking it in the A pillar so its out of the way. I am planning on doing a lot of reading on engine performance so I can get a foothold, it looks like I am bound to not do physical work on my truck for a little bit until my burns heal.

Thank y'all for being patient with me. I really do appreciate the help.

Well, my engine pings on start up for a second and then goes away, never thought it was pinging and thought it was something rattling around, been doing that for almost 6 months so I hope there isn't any damage, I am going to get some octane booster and dump it in until I can fill up with 91.

Are you certain it's pinging? Pinging on start up sounds weird to me. I don't want to say that it can't happen, but it's hard to think it could.

Pinging damage is usually because you under a lot of load and with the additional load and wrong ignition timing, damage can occur.

The sound is very interesting I chased it for a little bit but could never resolve it, it only happens on start up and idle or at least that's when I can hear it. It sounds like a marble hitting a piece of 1/4 inch plate.

I will get my bore scope in there to make sure there isn't any damage. I will also be changing the oil soon so I will look for any glitter in the oil.

Remove the oil filter and cut it open. That is where you will know if there is metal floating around.

Ping on start up is indication of worn timing chain gear, cam gear and or distributor gear shaft slop.

Well, whatever that noise is, it isn't pinging, my guess is maybe some lifter noise. Misdiagnosis on my end. The oil looked like plain old used motor oil, the noise is still there, I am going to try some marvel mystery oil for the noise. I did put some lucas ZDDP in for the flat tappet camshaft.

I put 91 octane in it, so far hasn't pinged or missed. I did advance the ignition timing but now my motor is stalling, Ive been chasing this issue for the past week, pretty sure the motorcraft TFI module I got was bad, but unrelated to this forum.

I found a A/F gauge I like and will get it on order tonight, I am also planning on getting my fuel gauge on it and see what its reading, I did some reading through my notes and the new pumps were putting out around 33 PSI with the FPR plugged in when I installed them, its a little low.

Sorry I haven't updated just been chasing some more pressing issues.
