A/C HELP!!!

Hi there, I have a 2006 Ford F250 King Ranch with the 6.0L Diesel and I've been chasing an A/C problem. The A/C blows out of the defrost vent only. But when you crank the temperature up to 90 degrees it then changes to blow through the face vents. But as you drop the temperature, it slowly fades back to the defrost vent. I just replaced the vacuum pump and harness that runs from the pump to under the glove box. The truck does engage into 4x4 so that leads me to believe that those hoses are fine.

If anyone has any idea as to what needs to happen next I am all ears for you and your suggestion! I'm just stumped as to why its possible to blow out of the face vents but only at 90 degrees.

Thanks,
Jax.

The default mode for the blend door(s) is defrost.

You likely have a full or partial vacuum leak in the system(if its vacuum not 100% sure on an 06). Usually, it's in the lines that feed the auto hubs on the front axle. Or a hub seal. Check to see if the front wheels turn when 4WD is activated from the cab.

The other possibility is you have a blend door actuator going flakey. I'll assume the KR has a dual zone HVAC? See if this defect only affects one side. That will narrow down which stepper is bad. But if you have the dash apart, you might as well do both.
I did a how-to in the tech section on a single-zone stepper replacement in a 2008 F250. $20 part. Dealer wanted $1200 to do it. Their flat rate book said the whole dash needs to come apart. It didn't. You do have to know how to deactivate and then reactivate the air bags. Not a big deal if you pay attention.

Thanks for the reply, my truck is single climate zone and yes its vacuum operated system. this might sound silly but if i command cold air with the refrigerant system empty would that cause it to default to defrost? all of the blend door modes work the temp is set to full heat, as you decrease the temp it slowly moves the blend door setting back to defrost.
