Hi, on my 1982 F100 there is alot of rust. I live in michigan and this truck has been here ever since 82. First off why is Orignal sheet metal so much more expensive then reproduction? Is it better quality and worth the money? I have looked at www.dennis-carpenter.com and www.npdlink.com they have the orginal sheetmetal parts and I have looked at www.********.com, and they have reproduction sheetmetal. Second, take a look at my 82 F100 in my gallery and you can see the rust on it. Should I just replace all of it or should I try and save it? I have a welder with Argon, so I can weld thin sheetmetal, I've just never done body work before. Any help? Thanks Fred
iskerbibel is right. I've found some good aftermarket stuff over here in PA though. Fits pretty good. the problem with replacing things is that everything is messed up throughout the years.
Looking at your truck, I'd replace the bedsides, only if the bed floor was in good shape (my '85 f150 has a great floor and shot bedside, go figure). If the floor's shot, I'd get a bed off of a '96, and I'd get good repro fenders, and weld up the cab floor/rockers/cab corners/door bottoms etc.
I did an entire body swap on my 83', but I found a business locally that brought clean parts up from down south, as well as a few aftermarket pieces, The aftermarket pieces that Plowpusher and I have used have fit ok, we've done 6 or so cab swaps in the last couple years....
