My alternator wasn't working took it apart and saw the brushes wore down to nubs and grease all over. The slip rings are a bit worn as well. We're do I get a rebuild kit? Everyone wants to sell me a 150 dollar alternator if I went that route I would get one for a Taurus at 130 amp instead of the 75 amps i am suppose to have now. But if I get the higher amperage won't that wear out my electric quicker?
Just upgrade to the Taurus alternator. The only thing you may look at doing is upgrading the charge wire that goes to the battery. There is nothing electrical to “wear”. It may actually help with battery life by keeping the battery sufficiently charged in shorter times.
You won't hurt anything by installing a higher amperage alternator. The alternator regulator is responsible for providing the proper amount of amps to keep your truck running at ~14v. Most of the time, your alternator only puts out about 20 amps. When you start running your electric winch or electric air compressor, the alternator will see the voltage drop and pump out as much amps as it can (up to 130amps) to keep your voltage at 14v.
The slip rings will be part of the armature
The armature and its number of windings determines the amperage
Those rebuild parts are all over Ebay
Brushes, holders armatures, windings etc
Good luck
I leave them stock and replace the harness when necessary
Those connectors
They do not "all" melt and not every time
cleaned it up and found some brushes at a mom and pop parts store for 1.50 for both. everyone else wanted 30 bucks each it works for now. the nearest wrecking yard is 80 miles away. it costs as much for gas as the parts.
