2016 F-250 A/C Issues. Please Help
2016 F-250 6.2 CC 4x4. This truck normally freezes me out. I live in northern Indiana. It has been very humid the last couple months. Have noticed the a/c just has not been getting the job done. Have to run it on max a/c and recirculate and even then it still just sit struggling to stay cold. If I turn off max a/c it immediately starts getting warm and humid in the cab. We just pulled the camper 5 hrs and it was getting worse all the way there. Got to the campground and the truck sat idling for the dogs while I got the camper set up. I climbed back in and was pelted with little ice chunks from the vents. So I am guessing that the Freon is low.
Since I am out of town I bought one of those little cans of Freon and hose. I didn’t buy the one with the stop leak as I don’t want to gum anything up.
Am I gonna hurt anything if I add a small can to the system, to try and cool it down a little?
Have you checked the low-side pressure with a gauge (or if one came with your refill) with Engine On / AC full blast? What's it reading? (also what temp is it outside?)
I've had success adding 1/4-1/2 bottle when seeing below range - low-side readings and compressor clutch going on/off continually. Immediately fixed and going on 2 years still cold with low side pressures still in range. (both my '03 truck and daughters '01 Jeep)

What it means is that there is a slow leak in the system somewhere, and the only way you're likely to find it is to have a shop put some of the UV dye in it and try to find it. Most people don't have the ability to do that themselves.
Now, I'm not saying go have it serviced right away - you might go a few years before needing another can, you might need another can in a year, it's hard to say. And the cans are cheap compared to system repairs, so a few cans over a few years isn't that bad of a deal. What I am saying is, be aware that if the leak gets too bad, even a can with stop leak won't be enough and you'll need to get it serviced.
