Just traded 1998 F-150 with the 5.4L for a 2003 F-250 with the 6.8L. I had replaced the stock exhaust on my 5.4L with a flowmaster dual out side exhaust kit. It was exactly the sound and the look I was looking for. It was also an easy do it myself install in my garage. Everything fit very nicely. After reading many posts pertaining to exhaust on this site, I realize I will probably not hear that nice rumble out of my 6.8L but the stock exhaust is much too quiet so I have to do something.
My question is this - I can't find a bolt on dual out side kit for my 6.8L. Flowmaster has a dual out rear kit but that will not work as I tow a fifth wheel camper. Gibson has a dual out side but both pipes exit on the same side. I don't really care for that look. Are you guys running duals having them made at the muffler shop or have you found a bolt on kit somewhere?
Your only option is having them exit out the passenger side because on the driver side is the fuel tank.Check my gallery for pics of passenger side exit.Go see your local shop and have them put a MagnaFlow stainless muffler.Possibily a single side exit.If your are leaving the stock exhaust from the cat forward, you will not gain anything by splitting off at the muffler w/two pipes and exiting out in front of the passenger side wheel. One nice single exit would look good, and perform just the same.
I do think that dual different side exits change the sound even if it is coming out of one muffler. Kind of like 2 speakers instead of 1. Mono maybe, not true stereo sound but different than one speaker stuck in the middle of the dash. Sitting in the truck I don't know if you will notice a difference but when you drive up the street it sounds different to the people on the street. That's my opion. I love the sound of a V-10, if it weren't for the tach you'd think it was turning 10 grand.
