Shaker Hood Scoop

I’m going to put a 69 Mustang shaker hood scoop on my short bed.
Mustang air cleaner and scoop assembly has to be modified to overcome F100 engine offset and has to be moved forward because the carburetor on the F100 is closer to the cowl than the Mustang carburetor.
Pics soon.

Chopped up a perfectly good $400 Scott Drake air cleaner base.

I chopped up the flapper plate, too, and made a top plate so I could move everything forward

Modified the base for the engine offset

The offset is good but I knew the overall height was going to be low

I’ll cut around the circumference of the air cleaner base tomorrow and add some 22 gauge sheet metal to increase the height about 3/4”

I would have found a junk yard housing to cut up than the $400 one OUCH!
I see the notch for the dist. is off a little

Can you get a filter in the housing?
It looks a little tight on the one side.
I know of someone that did the same off set as he put a Snipper EFI on a 300 six and the filter base that fit the TB hit the HVAC box.

will the shaker seal to the hood?
I have not really looked them over but I thought the housing sealed to the under side of the hood?
This way no water gets to the top of the motor.

Nice job.
I love to see things like this done by the owners, not farmed out, at shows

Thanks, the base of the air cleaner had to match the flapper plate top in both diameter and the three studs that mount the top to the base, so I bought the $400 one. It's only money and you don't get to take any of it with you when you die. I have several factory air cleaners, including a 390 GT air cleaner, the diameters are different, some are 18", some are 16".
The filter will be an 11" K&N Xtreme air filter with the filter top.
Yes, the rubber seal will be used and will seal to the hood.
The only thing farmed out on this truck was the machine work on the block and the porting on the heads.

3/4” taller today. The scoop sticks out of the hood at the correct height now.

I just need to mod the trim ring now to fit the contour of the hood.

Because of the offset, I wound up adding a support bracket so that all of the weight wasn’t on the air filter hold-down.

I painted the base, leaving the part under the filter bare metal. I didn’t want paint flakes to eventually go down the carb. I oiled the bare metal with ATF to inhibit rust.

11” K&N Xtreme filter

Nice job good to see some custom fab work.

I've wanted to build a cowl based intake. Maybe some day.

Sometimes buying and cutting up a $400 part saves $1000 in time.

I was able to change the contour of the trim ring to match the truck hood. The truck is going to be Grabber Blue.

Nothing is free. I've been working on this hood scoop for a month and am about $1200 in parts, metal, paint, etc.

So you charge your self for your time? How much an hour do you get?

I will say it is nice work as I do metal work and know how much it takes to do.

You know how it is, if I'm working on my stuff then I'm not elsewhere making money. I've had that shaker scoop for about five years, finally dug it out of the shed. I don't think you can even get the alloy scoop anymore. They do have them in fiberglass though.
