I have a 2003 psd with 59,000 miles on it. I have already replaced the low volume oil pump on it once. I have a super chip programmer on it. I have the 4 inch exhaust from the turbo back, with banks tri-pod pillar guages. what would have caused the pump to go out when it only had 45,000 miles on it???
Cookie88 suggest that the LVOP may have something to do with a oil leak I'm expierencing.
I'm suggesting it may be the source of the leak, that's all.
I couldn't begin to guess what caused stroked6x6's pump to fail without having it on my workbench. It was probably just bad luck a manufacturing defect, or it sucked up a piece of trash (I think that is the least likely scenario)
I am having Low Pressure pump troubles also. My problem was the High Pressure resevoir was not getting oil and the truck would stall after starting (not everytime). Once it happened and I checked the resevoir it was empty. Don't know if it was leaking down or if it emptied during the 10 seconds the truck would run. But I know for sure it was not getting replenished. If the Low Pressure pump goes it usually scores the back of the timing cover there and you need to replace it also which requires engine removal. Mine is at the dealer know trying to determine why the high pressure res is not getting oil. I have heard that excessive crankshaft end play will cause pumps to fail but do not know how accurate that info is. It seems it may due to the gear pump being on the end of the crank but not sure if other problems would exist.
Cookie,
I meant to ask how did you determined the leak to be from the LVOP. I'm getting all turned around trying to trace the drip to it's source. The wind has the trickle going all over the place.
