electric brake controller

I have a 99 E-350 with a 7.3l psd. I’m trying to install an electric brake controller. I have it down to red wire to red and blue to blue and so on. I got to pug it in under the dash. Now were do I get the blue wire that goes to back of the van for trailer. Do I splice it in under the dash? Does it come out some were under the van?

Okay I am not sure about a 99 E-350, but I know the newer vans have a plug on the left hand side by the emergency brake and all the wires work from the factory (cold side of brake, power, ground) but the blue wire doesn't go all the way to the back. If you buy a kit from Ford it has a connector that attaches under the hood and you have to route a wire inside to the brake controller plug. At work we usually just open the harness that runs across the top of the engine compartment, and splice into the wire that goes to the back, it is located on the driver side of the harness. The easiest way to find it is to run 12 volts from the rear of the van, find the heavy gauge blue wire (plugs are 2 round ones on the drivers side attached to the frame behind the rear end) and probe the heavy gauge blue wires in the front until you find it. To confirm you have the right wire, disconnect 12v at rear and test light should go out. Note there are 3 or 4 heavy gauge blue wires in the harness so make sure you confirm you have the right wire.
