I have a Dodge with a v6 that does the same thing.
Else we have had no problems and are continuing to enjoy the truck.
Cheers,
Can't help much unless and until you give us some real-world information as to what constitutes ""engine revs high".
Here's a suggestion. Next time you sit in your Excursion. Look at the dash-board. In front of you are some things called "indicators'. There is one to tell you how much fuel you have, and some others which tell you various things about the motor's condition.
The big one next to the thing that tells you how fast the vehicle is going, is called the "rev. meter" or, if you want to use big technical words, TACHOMETER. Watch that thing and tell us what you see, next time you start your motor. What that thing will tell you, is how "fast" those "revs" actually are.
Here's the problem. It is NORMAL AND NATURAL for the motor to run faster when cold. In the old days, we called that a "fast idle" cam. Now that is done by computer-driven sensors.
After you have told us what you can see on that "rev. meter", we will be able to advise you as to whether your Excursion needs service.
Get back to us, and good luck !

Most gas engines when cold will rev high for the first few minutes after initial startup. Once things are where they should be, it returns to normal idle. This is computer controlled and perfectly normal.
Now if you're turning 2000 or 2500 rpms on initial startup, then you definitely have a problem...
