My f-250 with the v-10 has started to shut down I took it to the dealership and they hooked up to the computer and it says everything is fine what could be the problem?
By shutting down do you mean it just stalls out of the blue. if so it could be a feul problum or it could be and ignition problum how many miles are on your truck that could also depend on the shape of your battrey I suggjest taking your onwners manul out and giving the engin comparment a good look over look for anything that might be distorted or dose not look right after you do that all you can do is take it back to ford and have them look it over agin and if thay feed you the same stuff take it to a local grage and have them look it over. hope this helps Good luck with your truck
the guy who looked at my truck is the top mech at the dealership and a close friend(no charge)and he said the same thing about fuel, the fuel pump, switch, and something else in the line of fuel op but I can't think of it.The strange part is after sitting for awhile it will start right back up.I have to drive from eastern wa to western wa but I can't afford to get stuck on the mountian passes
I've changed the fuel filter,by shutting down It's like someone turning the key off no power I don't lose electrical power for the engine will crank over.I was driving over the pass 4 days ago and it just stop running just like that it would crank over but would'nt fire up.I went to get a tow back to the house when I got back to the truck it fired right up so I drove it home and there it sets
check for trash in your fuel tank, you could be sucking something into the pump. When it shuts off the pump will drop it and then suck it back up again. Try running with a full tank and see what happens. The bad part is you have to drop the tank you really find out.
You're going to have to have someone (or yourself) hookup a fuel pressure guage when this happens and see if you are getting fuel. A spark monitor would be a big help too.
If you can't get those, check to see if the fuel pump is running. Turn on the key, and listen for the fuel pump whine.
If it's running, you probably have an electrical problem.
If the computer is not logging any errors, like the dealership says, it could be that the EEC, or computer, is locking up - sounds like a thermal problem. Gets hot, shuts down, cools off, starts up. The reason there are no error codes in the computer? Because it actually reset itself, and lost all it's stored information, just like you unplugged the battery.
When this happenes, does the CE/SES (check engline/service engine soon) light come on when you turn the key to ON ??? It should come on normally. When it dies, does the light come on, whlie coasting to a stop?
I wouldn't think it was a fuel problem it is as you describe, like someone turning off the switch. Sounds more electrical to me. A fuel problem USUALLY acts like it is being starved until it quits running.
I ran across this chat due to my troubleshooting for a F250 Diesel. It is doing the same thing that you talked about in the chat. What was the outcome and what did you do to fix it?
There are a number of things that could cause your diesel to shut down that are different than a gasoline engine. If you haven't already, post your question/issue up in the diesel forum and those guys can probably give you a good idea of what to check.
