What is the consensus with the water pump backing plate replacement?
Do you replace it with the pump or do you reuse it if it isn't too bad? (bad being relative of course ie- pitting but not too deep)
I'm leaning to replacement as there is at least one area with a pit a bit deeper than the others along the gasket. Safe to state, it will be a failure eventually.
Shame as the rest of the plate really isn't that bad from these eyeballs.
NO I mean the water pump backing plate on a 460.
As far as I can tell no new water pump comes with a backing plate unless you buy the ford racing performance part.
My napa pump definitely did not come with a backing plate, it is sold separately. (which napa does not sell)
I know the cost, you forget shipping, summit with shipping is 40ish dollars if that is all I buy -free shipping is 99), amazon is 38 free shipping.
I wasn't asking about where to get one, just the consensus.
After posting this, asked my Uncle if he could source one from his parts store, he is shipping one to me even though I only inquired, so I guess I'm getting one anyhow.
I don't think a picture would show depth perception as well as eyeballs on something like this.
If the pit is deep, I would replace it. Last time I ordered from Summit I added coolant and oil to my order. They have good prices on the stuff you need anyway. So package up the stuff you're gonna buy anyway. And heck comes to your door.
