The EVAP system is not going to cause "lean" codes. You need to look for leaks in the intake system that allows air in after the MAF as that is the most common (but not only) fault.
Specific suggestions depend on what you have but you did not provide that info.
I have a 2005 e250 5.4 2v...I replaced the intake manifold after the original failed and created missfire in cylinder 5....right next to leak.I never had a p0171 or p0174 code until after this manifold replacement. I have checked all the obvious culprits like ,vacuum hoses, elbows, egr tube.Cleaned maf sensor and pcv valve...my post was wanting to know where I would introduce smoke to system to check for intake manifold leaks?...I realize now that going thru evap port only checks leaks in evap system.Im thinking that I should push smoke thru throttle body and see if it leaks at sealing surface on heads..correct???

You could use any vacuum line or even the throttle opening. The brake booster line is a common input. You'll have to seal off the throttle body either way.
Hey SHO89!.. Thanks for ur input. Most grateful!....I'm thinking this aftermarket intake is leaking sumwhere....never had any problems with original intake(or any codes whatsoever) until the area around cyl5 where it failed and caused missfire in cyl 5....so I bought replacement intake from Rock Auto....cleaned and tested all injectors, new cops and plugs,All good for couple weeks then....p0171and p0174.....smoke machine is ordered, plus new gasket kit......lol.....THANKS BOSS!
These are a bigger Pia than the Tbird Turbocoupes.....don't get me going on those!!!!!!
