I just went from a 2004 expedition to a 2015 expedition. I'm probably going to have a lot of questions here. I have the manual and have been reading that quite a bit but I can't figure out how to turn off the interior lighting when you don't want it. In my 2004 you just spin the little round wheel in between the headlight selection and the steering column. Click it up and spin it all the way up you adjust your dimmer of your instrument panel but if you spin it all the way down and it clicks that turns all your interior lighting off. How do you do this in the 2015 expedition? Thanks guys.
Page 94 of the owners manual indicates that you press and hold the top of the dimmer switch to turn on the dome lights, and press and hold the bottom of the dimmer switch to turn them off.
Essentially the same as the rotary wheel, but in button form.

Does that not work on yours?
It does work on mine. But when you open any door all the lights come on. On my 2004 when I rotated the rotary wheel down to the bottom and it clicked it would prevent the lights from coming on when you open the door. So you can't do this on a 2015? So is there no way to stop the interior lights from coming on?

Can anybody help out on this? Is the answer 'this option doesn't exist'? (Which would make it not the same as the rotary dial but in button form)
I guess if this is the case then the only option would be to pull the fuse to the interior lights and wire in a fused switch to manually disable interior lights when a door is opened.
If anybody can verify if the 2015 does or does not have this option that would be great. Thank you.
I drove a 2014 f150 at work for a while last year and it had the same switch for the dash and dome lights. It worked exactly like the rotary wheel, just as a switch instead.
That is to say, when you toggled it all the way down it turned off the dome lights and they did not come on when you opened the door. Likewise, when you toggled it all the way up, the dome lights came on and stayed on.
id be surprised if your expedition was any different. But my 2014 expedition had the rotary wheel, and my 2020 expedition has buttons on the overhead console so I cannot confirm.
Open the door and just keep pressing the dimmer switch down and see if the dome lights go off. If they do, then they should stay off when you open the door.
if it doesn’t work that way, then explore using Forscan to program “police dark mode” which will keep the lights from coming on when you open the door. The downside to “police dark mode” is that you will always have to turn them on manually when you want them on.
open the door and hit the dimmer switch down until the dome light goes off. I’m betting that does what you are looking for.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I tried exactly what you were saying, and I just tried it again. I opened the door and tried the 'press press press' the down button method and also press and hold the down button. Lights never went off. It's seems weird that it works on your 2014 but it doesn't on my 2015. It's sounding like there's a problem with my system. I've used forscan before but the police option sounds like a hassle when you want the lights to come on. If anybody can point me to something that could be causing mine not to work I'd appreciate it. But it looks like the "easy" fix is to hardwire in a switch.
I had a 2004 Eddie Bauer edition before this truck. It's funny, I was complaining about the climate controls being push button and having to 'push push push' to dial up or down the temperature. Kind of a usability nightmare. I would much rather have a dial that I can quickly go from cold to hot without having to push buttons for five minutes. When I got this 2015 the temperature controls were dials they could just zip to a higher temperature. Yay! But then they went back to the 'push push push' on the lighting. 😡 The Ford design team needs to take a class in user-friendliness...
