I have (had) a 2005 Ford excursion, 6.0, lift, 4wd with 185k miles on it in great condition. Unfortunately it was totalled last week. The state farm payout estimate is 9.5 k. Ouch!
Insurance companies pay book value, all of them. There are certain vehicles where book value and market value don’t match ( Cummins engine equipped trucks also fall into this category). Really, getting $9500 for an almost 20 year old vehicle is pretty damn good.
If you want it valued/ insured higher then you need to seek out specialty insurance companies like Grundy. They have an agreed upon value , but you also pay premiums based on that agreed upon value so there is no free lunch.
Man i wish it was good. Actually on this policy they pay current market value and bring into account book value. Acv. If you pull up AutoTrader and look at excursions 2005 four-wheel drive diesel etc with 150k to 250k miles they are priced 15-30k. I think I may have just ended up with a lazy appraisal in this situation. Probably that and the market being down.
What I'm trying to do now is just get them to please fix it. They estimate 7500 to fix. I would love to have it fixed for 7.5k. this truck was in awesome condition. I could drive it for decades. If anyone is curious how this plays out I'll post an update here. I might just be stuck but I sure hope not....

What is the buy back price, you do not have to give them the truck. The price they quoted you must include sales tax. Then ask them the buy back, collect the check and put up the money difference to have it repaired and be done with them. Remember to factor in your deductible, good luck.

You can also have a third party perform a value check on your truck. I had a 2017 Suburban I just purchased totaled when I guy hit me doing 80 from behind while I wasn't moving. I used a thrid party to get the insurance company to pay what I paid for the truck. I forget the name of the company I used but you can search on getting insurance values for damaged cars (?) something like that. I will try and find it again. Has to be a company the insurance companies recognize.

Not sure on the buy back price yet but will find out. I'd rather it not become a salvage title but if that's my only option I would still go with it.
I have to get a couple ballpark quotes. I'm a little concerned it may be worse than the 7500 repair estimate. See below pics. Damage is unfortunately not just body damage. You can see under the hood at driver side left compressed.

I think it's called third party arbitration under your insurance policy and searching that should get you some leads.

Thanks for that. Yes it looks like I can hire an appraiser and they hire one as well and an unaffiliated third party decides between the two appraisals. Looks like I may be doing that if they don't budge. Thanks
I've had to fight insurance on 2 excursion values...1 was just last month due to hail...insured by State Farm. They came back and said it was only worth 8k and after some back and forth, they agreed on a 15k value. Mine was 05 EB 6.0 with 255k miles.
The first one was a 03' 6.0 with 426k miles that we agreed on a 17k value. That one was a much harder fight but well worth it.
Get a copy of their paperwork showing the appraisal, they will have many missing features on it, get a hold of the total loss rep and go over it line by line with them and have them adjust the value. I have not been on in a bit so I am clearing out my inbox but feel free to shoot me a PM and I will gladly shoot you my number and help you out over the phone with some info.

Like he described above, Twitch has unfortunately been down this road a couple of times and knows how to get the vehicle properly valued.

That's great info man - thanks! I put together a spreadsheet and sent it over to them. Giving them a call today.
you have to have full Documentation to win,
I got Full Insured Value on this bike, my policy was $10,000
I included every thing that I had put on the bike, it was in Pristine condition,
I included confirmed Sales posts showing that some of them were getting $15,000 for their bikes that age range.
1994 Honda Goldwing, this occurred Jan 8th, 2008
14 years after it was made, KBB valued the bike at $3500
the insurance adjuster said they won't allow him to write a check for "full value, so he gave me a check for $9,999.00
