what motor do i have

I recently purchased a motor which i thought was a 390. The person i purchased the motor from said it was a 390, so i took his word for it. I had to get some parts off of it today, and on the rear end of the motor ( where it bolts up to the tranny ) it said 28 352. So i was wondering it that is just a serial code which happened to be 352, or is the motor a 352. How much is a old 352 worth?

You need to check the stroke. Several methods of doing so. Or you can pull the pan and look at the crank. Should have 2 U on the crankshaft if it is a 390. 352, 360 and 390 all use the same block. I am a novice though, and I am sure there are other methods. Good luck.

There isn't much cast on the block that is going to help you figure out what you have. In fact, as you see, it can actually cause confusion. In short, the 352 you found cast in the block means nothing.

As stated above, measure the stroke using a narrow dowel or some other device through the sparkplug hole as the engine is turned over. If its just a parts motor, pull a head. Then you can measure bore and stroke.
