I had backed into a parking space and fortunately the back wheels were against a curb and went into a store. I came out of the store, start the truck and shift from Park to Drive. The truck then tries to climb the curb in reverse. That was the thrilling part.
So you know the PRND21. Now my N is P, D is R, 2 is N and 1 is D. Everything is displaced 2 positions to the right.
Anyone experience this? How to fix?
That would depend on which part broke. There is an adjustment setup up under the dash. It's been a couple years since I've been in there so I'm foggy on the particulars. There's also some adjustment down on the transmission where the cable connects to the range sensor. I would probably start by pulling the lower dash and maybe the clam shell. Then it's only 4 bolts to drop the steering column down and have a real look.
Look at the bottom of the column, shift lever attaches with 2 bolts that come loose/ Check shift cable attachment at transmission. If all of the positions work correctly but the indicator is off there is a cable with an adjustment for the indicator under the column, besides the adjuster there is a plastic cable retainer that can crack and screw up the indicator.
Thanks Eman85 the adjustment bracket on the end of the indicator was broken.
Replacement part is a Dorman 83244. $20 Advanced Auto. $10.91 Rock Auto. 2 for $11.22 Amazon.
There are also some metal ones, but I hesitate to us one of those because if something else is bad on the column end, I do not want to snap the cable itself.
Same thing happened on my 99 expedition. I never looked at the needle I just feel the shift in the lever so I didn't notice for a long time. Then I continued not looking at it lol
