Can anyone point me in the right direction for replacing a broken spindle in on my 1975 F250. The spindle has numbers stamped on it. I don’t know how to identify the front end it came from.
Don’t know any good sources for new parts like that anymore. Used to have quite a few around here, including some pretty good used parts sources as well.
So this is a 75 F250 four-wheel-drive it looks like? I would think it would be a closed knuckle Dana 44 front end, but I’m not at all knowledgeable about all the things available back then.
Rather than just the part number, confirm exactly what you have. Maybe take a picture of the front end.
Especially the area where the spindle mounts.
Seems to me it has to be a Dana 44 though.
I’m trying to confirm the front end as well, no luck yet. I did find some stamped numbers as well as a tag on the differential cover.
Your help is hugely appreciated. I’ve been slowly working on fixing this truck up and I love it. But since the spindle broke it’s been sitting in the driveway for months.
Sure looks like a Dana 44 HD.
Just curious If you don't mind, how did that break anyway??
I think there is a Dana website that you can decode that aluminum tag.
Not sure but I also think the 44 has 1/2 inch bolts and the 60 has 9/16.
Sure looks like a 44 from here. Strange though, that a company like Dana would put any number with a bold “60“ cast right into the unit!
Not sure if 60s were ever found in that vintage vehicle, in the front at least. But we’ve been wrong about stuff like that before.
Once you figure out the part ID, try Torque King 4x4 they have rotating selections of used parts. They had some closed knuckle D44 HD parts in the fall.
Also eBay, not a bargain to found there but one CAN find some obscure parts. Check it frequently as stuff will pop up overnight.
Thank you for the suggestion. I’ll try finding a DANA specific decoder on their site. A google search of the tag indicates DANA 44 HD as well, but I’d like to confirm.
No specific load or impact caused it. I mounted the below spare tire when the same size other tire got a
flat. Drove it about 10 miles, parked it, noticed the wheel sagging and took a closer look to notice nothing holding the wheel on. Scary as hell. Glad I didn’t lose while driving on the highway.
