I just bought a 97 f250 drive it a few times and then parked it for a couple days and it would crank but not start. I can't hear the fuel pump turn on. I switched the relay for it with the one from the horn cause it was working and still nothing I could really use some help or ideas.
If this is the case how does it fill the fuel filter after draining it and changing filters? I'm not understanding.
Its a mechanical pump. when you crank the engine the cam turns and bumps the pump plunger. I think most people fill the filter housing after changing their filter. Im not super familiar with the ins and outs of the OEM fuel system though first thing I did when I got my truck was electric fuel.
If the issue is your fuel pump and it's a stock fuel pump system you can check it fuel is being supplied to the motor. Near your fuel bowl/filter housing is a shraeder valve. Kinda like the air valve at your tires. Push it as if you were releasing air to see if fuel shoots out while cranking over ur motor. You will need to people to do this. If fuel shoots out then it's not likely an issue with your fuel pump.
The shraeder valve locates on the driver's side of your fuel bowl/filter housing.
