I know this has been covered before but I can't find it in a search.
I want to buy a set of 20x9 wheels for my '22 4wd that will come as close to flush with the wheel lip moldings as possible but not stick out beyond them. tires will be 295's so slightly taller and narrower than 12.50's.
As I recall that would be a 15mm to 18mm positive backspacing correct?
Mine are 18 offset and my 295/65's stick out past the fender flare about 3/4". That said, the actual tread that contacts the road is under the fender - it's just the sidewall that sticks out.
Yeah stocks are +40 so you're going to want to try and stay around +20 or so on a 9" aftermarket wheel. I think mine are either +12 or +18, can't remember which. But they do stick out a little bit.
Might I recommend this site: https://www.wheel-size.com/calc/ you can put your measurements in and select the different tire sizes and offsets and see the difference. It gives a pretty good visual as well. I compared stock +40 to +12 offset, which I ended up ordering. They should be here today.
I have 20x9 +18. They stick enough to look cool but not enough to be rollerskates. Maybe 1.5 in. Some of the boxes are aligned within the margin of era (they are slightly off-center) so don't drive yourself mad because the rear right side shows a little more rubber than the left side.
You might get a little rubbing on the sway bar thurning full right. With a 295, you might not or it will be very slight. Mine rubbed so I got a Hellwig sway bar.
