Does a lift affect towing capacity?

Title, I lifted my 94 f150 6 inches with the rough country lift and replaced the springs (leafs and coils). Would that affect how much my truck can tow? And if so by how much?

Many variables that go into that but the short answer is yes. Because the truck is higher in the air and with bigger tires I would assume it's already working harder to get rolling by itself. You can still pull a fairly heavy load but I wouldn't recommend towing cars or anything in that realm and you'll have to find the right hitch to compensate for squat.

Thanks for the reply, and great. I wasn’t planning on towing anything too heavy, just wanted to know where to stop. Another question, does that mean that the springs I choose aren’t a big deal? I just bought a 92 f250 that I’m lifting and straight axle swapping. I want to pull a boat that’s a little over 5,000 lbs with it. Do I want to look for specific springs or will typical lift springs do the job fine?

I would start by hooking up the boat and see how it sits and handles. Long time ago I use to tow a fairly big pontoon with an 84 GMC Jimmy with 33 inch tires (I think) and it was lifted with just blocks and was ok for the most part. Do your research on the springs and see if you can find people with experience with a similar or same setup. 5k lbs is quite a bit but I would imagine the truck could do it, it just may not be great.

Off topic, but I wish I'd thought of that profile name.

Ah the joy of big lifts... worse at towing, worse at hauling, and worse handling.

I've towed with lifted rigs with big tires before and it is an experience I wish to never live again. Gotta be careful with what tires you use as well. Several times I've went sliding right into the water with the boat on with no control because the tires just weren't meant to grip the wet concrete ramp. But his truck and his money so I have no say in what he can and can't do.

How big a lift? And how big are the tires?
If you put 5.13s in it, it will tow better
IMO all vehicles perform better stock height with stock tires (mud and sand a different story)
Lift kits have their place in this world, but towing is not the best place
