I think there may be something wrong with the brakes on my truck. They feel fine during normal braking, but during heavy braking there seems to be a delay between when they are applied and when they grab.

I believe it’s the brake pad compound Ford uses, assuming you have stock oem brakes, and how much heat they need before they bite. Plus you could have some anti-skid modulation going on if you slam the brakes on hard initially.

Any difference in braking feel with a little weight on the back of the truck?
I don't think it is the ABS kicking in, I didn't try putting my foot to the floor. It was 'howling tires', so maybe I was more on the brakes than I thought.
The really concerning part is that when I first step on the brakes like that it feels like they aren't doing anything. Maybe it is the 'stability' function, but it isn't like it started getting squirrelly.
I have not had a chance to try it with any significant weight in the bed yet.
The only time I had significant weight on it was when I had a trailer with a car, and I don't like messing around in those situations.
The brakes feel fine in normal braking. They feel fine during heavy braking. It just seems to be a lack of performance.
I have tried the heavy braking thing a few times in a row, but not immediately after the first try. My thought was maybe it needs the heat, but I didn't get the impression that it got better after the first time.
