alternator charging wire melted
individually tested batteries one read 12.2 and the other 12.3 which I know is low so have them charging at the moment.
checked the nut that holds the wire to alternator and it was tight.
while truck is running tested batteries and only reading at 13 volts
truck ran fine until a rough start this morning and than didn't start after work popped the hood and sure enough the wire melted. crimped a new fitting on and jumped the truck just to make it home.
edge cts3 was reading voltage at 12.8 - 13.8 while driving home.
brand new alternator cause the battery light came on about a week ago. just replaced all the terminals due to old age and starting to deteriorate.
ever sense replaced alternator voltage has been reading lower than normal. it used to stay between 13 and 14 now its all over the place which has me nervous.
while cranking this morning it was at 9.7volts on the cts3 than warmed up and stayed around 12.5. while driving to work would go between 11.8 - 13.3.
now that im home switched to forscan so I could check everything while also checking voltage.
ICP reading 588psi IPR reading 12.89% engine voltage 13.06
ICPV 652psi
truck has a lot of performance parts but not much after market electrical has one 12" sub and the irate diesel e fuel kit wired to driver side battery. pulled all the wiring from the previous owner out.
also has brand new engine wiring harness.
forgot to check for codes ill do that tomorrow
any help is appreciated.
