Need some clarification here....my 92 F150 has a T18 (gear ratio 6ish to 1:1). I am not sure if the rear end is a 3.08:1 or a 3.55:1 Have to do some research on that bcuz someone may have swapped the rear end. I have read that the total gear ratio of a truck is determined by the transmission, transfer case, overdrive (if present), rear end gears and tire size. I have read in some places that taller tires reduce towing capacity. Also read that taller tires reduce mpg, but when I use a gear calculator, taller tires reduce my engines rpm at 65 mph, which should help mpg. All of these articles together sound like a convention of politicians! Can someone give me some insight please?

You have a T18 in a '92? That truck should have come with an M5OD or one of the automatics so maybe some PO swapped it in.

What is the axle code on the drivers door decal?

Correct

Yes

Maybe... it depends on where the total combo puts engine rpms and load at any given ground speed.
none of the OEMs have ever been big fans of towing with LD trucks with sticks. that being said, I have. heck I towed a 24ft rv with an SROD. And the 300... in an F100....
But anyways, the clutch in the M5, SROD etc is too small and the plate pressure is too light and they tend to have gears too tall.
That SROD I towed with? it had an open 2.50 9 incher. I swapped out to a 3L55 8.8 during the restore.
you want the 3.55. 4.10 wont hurt at all either. should be a tag on the axle. it will requires cleaning to read. GENERALLY, like 95% of the F150s are in the 308/355 range with the 2.73 and 4.10 being rare outliers for that year. If it has an 'L' after the 3, it has fords version of limited slip AND, 3L08 is so rare as to be fairy dust.
dont oversize the tires. that messes up a lot of stuff cuz the engine is programmed to a certain power curve and big and stupid tires mess that up.
