I also assume by your screen name that you like performance cars. It was the original Datsun Z series that won the SCCA Class C championship EVERY year it was made.... 1970-1978. It won nearly 80% of it's races. I call that domination in racing.
SCCA Class-C huh? Isn't that class limited to 4 and 6 cylinder cars? Simply put American performance cars of those years were V8 powered and were not allowed to compete in that class. Who were the little Datsuns dominating? It certianly was NOT V8 powered Corvettes, Camaros or Mustangs!
It's well known Ford ,GM and Chrysler all phased out their factory backed teams in 1971. The last year of real competition in the "big league" V8 Trans Am series was 1970 and the Ford Mustang Boss 302 won the championship that year. After that year the only team with factory support was AMC and they took the championship against the privately owned teams.
