Hey everyone, just have a curious question that I’ve been thinking about a little bit today, I have a 95 powerstroke and my buddy used to have a super duty before he rolled it, my question is, why did his super duty turbo flutter and mine doesn’t? What makes them flutter compared the the whooshing that mine makes when I let off, I know that the whoosh sounds is when you let off and have too much air compressed and it pushes back out, but why did his turbo flutter rather than whooshing?

 

He probably had the stock 9 blade compressor wheel that were notorious for turbo flutter, specially when towing.

 

gotcha, is it possible to make an obs do that or is there something different with them for some reason? I don’t want to but I’m just wondering, theoretically if you put a 9 blade in an obs it would do the same right?

 

Yes it's possible, another thing to note is that the 99-03 turbos had a waste gate to help with "over boosting" and thus take care of the "flutter"

When the turbo flutters your loosing boost if your doing WOT run, And can potentially damage the turbo.
