1st time radio install

My 1984 has NEVER had a radio installed and still has the cover plate with the big XL on it. Three questions, what parts do I need to salvage out of another truck to install a radio? Does removing the dash top give you easy access to this area? How hard is it to install the antenna?

I checked that link, I hadn't seen that aftermarket piece before, I've drilled, hacked, ground with a dremel, but the most important issue for me was maintaining a set of original pieces to return a factory radio back into the old girl

Finding an original factory radio isn't an option. I do have a pair of good AM/FM cassette radios with the volume and tuning ***** on either side of the face just like the good old days, along with a front mounting kit. Does the face plate with the XL come out or is the entire front bezel one piece?

I've never seen a bezel/frame without a radio. One way to find out is take out the two screws down by the ash tray and the two above the clock and pull the bezel out. It'll only take you a minute to do this. You should be able to tell from there if the cover where the radio is supposed to be is removable from the bezel or if you need to go buy a bezel made for a radio. If you need to buy one, shop around you local junkyards for one.

That one from the ebay link above doesn't look like anything that would work in an 84 f150.

All three of my F100's are radio delete trucks, the radio trim piece does not have any cut out for a radio, For my 80, I cut it out to fit a DIN chassis, for my 81, I got a trim panel out of an 89 F600 that already had a DIN sized hole(85 and 86 F150-350's have this also) and, my 82 was cut out to fit a 2 post radio when I got the truck.
The stock power wiring will be in the dash, just a plug with a yellow wire(ignition switched), and the blue/red stripe dash illumination wire, with NO speaker wiring. If you intend on having door speakers, you're gonna have to get out the drill...
