'76 to newer steering conversion
i know this has been addresses many times, but i can't seem to find definite facts on what will work. i've got a '76 f150 4x4 and the steering (tie rod ends, etc.) is shot. i think the gear box is good, so i'm' wondering...what parts do i have to switch to go to the 78-79 style steering? will my box work or do i have to change the box, rods, and tie rod ends? any info or advice would be great so i know what parts to start looking for.

lilpig,does your truck have the ram assist power steering or is it a manual steering setup? If you have either of the above I can send you the article I wrote on how to add power steering to these year trucks.I will be doing the same swap on my Daughters 76 F-100 4x4 in the next few months,it has the ram assist and has quit working.Send me your e-mail address to my inmail box and I will send you a download of my article.

NOD-My buddy wants to swap the steering in his '77 F-250 4x4 from power assist to power steering.I told him I'd see what I could find,two minutes later ,here I am!!Love this place!!!
Anyhow if your article covers it I'd like to download it for my buddy-just let me know what to do.

newbie66, i have read many posted articles about this conversion. if you do a search power steering conversion (or something like that), i'm sure you'll come up with plenty of material.

Newbie66,My article covers the 67-72 model F-100 4x4 and some 73-76 F-100 4x4s,the F-250s are a lot different and I am not that familiar with them.Go to the Technical articles from the home page here at FTE and you will find some good information on F-250 conversions for the years you are looking for,good luck and have fun.
