I am trying to figure out if my ABS valve is bad on an '89 F150. I've ohmed the valve switch pin and get 3.12 on a 20k scale and between the switch pin and solenoid pin it was less than the 10k suggested reading. Both of which indicate the valve is bad. Great. I just picked one up and decided to check it before I put it in. All I get is OL on every pin. I can't get a reading at all. Do these need to be grounded to the frame in order to get an accurate reading or is this new one bad out of the box? Ideas??
The RABS valve? If that is what you are referring to? Does not need to be grounded to test it or function.
You can test them out of the truck.
I do not have that test sequence in front of me but when told to measure the resistance of the solenoid in the RABS valve, it's pretty cut and dried.
You either have the specified resistance or not.
I might have one good valve in my toolbox and one no good valve I can measure and double check.
I doubt you got a no good valve out of the box.
Did you obtain the flashout code to get you to where you are at now in the diagnostics?
What code was it?

Is there more than one valve?
I imagine that you would find the resistance specs in a shop manual but I have never tested one especially just for the fun of it.
I got it figured out. The abs valve, or RABS valve as some people call it, was the culprit. The old one measured way low on the allowable resistance. Swapped them out and bled the system. All is good now.
