97 F250 7.3 diesel what cam position sensor

97 F250hd w 7.3 Diesel automatic trans. Looking to find correct CPS. I order one and either it was bad or I got the wrong one. wasn't a ford part. So back to research. Has original engine tubo Fuel filter on top of engine, IHOP Just wondering if the 96 sensors are the same as 97 and if this engine was old stock. I don't know where the engine numbers are. I have a engine number recorded in my documents but it doesn't seem to match what I'm reading and I don't know where I found that number many years ago. Can someone tell me the ford part number of the part I need. My I bought is a F7TZ212K073B. ==may have been right one but bad part. My research say 1825899c93 but there is a Ford part F4TZ12K073C DU87 fits properly to a 96 so wondering if a change was made so it no longer fits after 96? Any help please.

The engine and sensors are mostly the same externally between 96 and 97. There are a few internal differences.

For any sensors, you really want to use a motorcraft or international branded part.

I bought one that said it fit 97 and up. Then I was looking at a Motorcraft that says it fits 96 and down. So confusion sets in.

That RiffRaff link had a pdf that explains the differences. Here's a shot from that excerpt:

Doesn't say anything about the blue one. The way I'm reading is the 073C is for the 95-97 year even tho the compatibility chart may say for 96 or older. Some people use the 073C for newer Powerstroke engine as well?

I know there are some different ones made throughout the years, but they all fit. It is easy to over complicate, but the easy answer is the get the Riffraff offers and motor on. Just don’t get a parts store piece. The aftermarket stuff doesn’t play well with our trucks.
