My truck started sucking so much air, it runs down to 1/4 fuel filter in about 2 minutes, bucks and stalls out.
I popped off the lift pump and it's sucking and pushing fine through the intake/outtake, but also sucking in through the hole on the side of the top. My guess is that it shouldn't be and this is my issue?
I don't think that is your problem. The pump is a diaphragm style, so there is a rubber disc in the middle of the pump that gets moved up by the lever, and then back down by a spring. That action sucks fuel in, then pushes it out. That hole might be a weep hole that will leak fuel if the diaphragm breaks. It would also allow air to move around as the diaphragm moves. Although I'm not sure all pumps have a hole there as there would have to be a seal somewhere else to prevent oil from leaking out of the crankcase.
How much fuel is in your tanks? These trucks tend to break off the plastic "showerhead" in the fuel tanks and then suck air at 1/4 tank. You may also have a hole in a fuel line that suddenly appeared.
I've got over a half tank in each, new fuel as of the last few months. I've had the bucking/stalling problem at full tanks the past month
I just put in a new lift pump, but my ******* left the key turned in the ignition for since yesterday morning, new batteries were down to 11.7 and now charging....
