I am looking for an 'alternative grill' for my '78 f250 Ranger XLT. I repaired the grill which had numerous cracks in the plastic by fiberglassing the back side for reinforcement as needed, but that has made it very heavy. So I am wondering about simply stretching a black screen over the front or something else to cover it.
I used thin expanded metal from a jobsite for a grill in a 73 ranchero. The kind commonly used by plasterers and efis installers. Looked decent, but the ranchero had a thin piece of trim around the edge to hold it. Looked kinda like a cheap version of the grille in the CTS-V Cadillac.

Black expanded steel mesh with a few chrome "geejaws" like a '53 Olsmobile or partial cross bars from a '57 Chevy .... or later model Mustang Pony grill driving lights ... or just one or two polished stainless steel shower curtain hanger bars running across.
