Fuel pump regular ?

I need to put a fuel pump regular on (yes, it's a Edelbrock). What is it going to do to the pump, blow out the diagram? Is seems to load up after highway driving, specially after having to come to a stop sign or signal. This on a 1979 250 with a 460. Or would a off road needle and seat clear the problem?

I had to put a regulator on my 75 with a 390 and Edelbrock 1406. It's been on there for 6 or 7 years now, with no issues from the fuel pump. I have the regulator set at 4.5 PSI and the Carter pump was putting out about 9 PSI. My 71 Bronco (Edelbrock 1406) was also having the same issues, and it has the offroad needles and seats installed. My thinking is the over pressure was pushing past the needles and seats. I put a regulator on the Bronco too, problem solved.

I used a Holley 12-803 4.5-9 PSI and turned it down to between 4.5-5 PSI. Works like a champ.
